Aesthetic Crown Lengthening

The crown lengthening procedure is performed when the patient has aesthetic concerns   (known as aesthetic crown lengthening) or presents with functional issues (known as functional crown lengthening) of a single tooth or multiple teeth requiring a dental restoration such as a crown or an onlay.

Here are some indications for which a crown lengthening procedure may be indicated to improve your smile:

Aesthetic Crown Lengthening:

  • “Gummy” Smile showing an abundance of gums when you smile
  • Short clinical crowns that may not look aesthetically pleasing or youthful
  • When a more even smile line is desired due to the uneven appearance of the gums or when faulty/uneven restorations have compromised the aesthetics of your smile.

During the dental crown lengthening procedure, excess gum and bone tissue is reshaped to expose more of the natural tooth. This can be done to one tooth, to even your gum line, or to several teeth to expose a natural, broad smile.
